Banks Arcade released their second album, Second Place Superstar, on 25 September through Arising Empire.
‘Last Time’ arrived with the record and leans into the band’s melodic side. Elsewhere, ‘YUCK!’, ‘MIRROR’, ‘DON’T MISS’ and ‘ROCKSTAR’ show how little interest they have in choosing between nu metal, metalcore, electronics and hip-hop.
That genre-hopping works because the songs stay direct. The hooks do not sound stapled onto the heavy parts; both belong to the same record.
The album follows Future Lovers and the 2024 EPs DEATH 2 and A MUSE. This sounds less like another reset than Banks Arcade finally using their full range at once.
