Fear Factory have released Roboticist, the first studio recording to feature vocalist Milo Silvestro. The current lineup puts him beside founding guitarist Dino Cazares, bassist Tony Campos and drummer Pete Webber.
Damien Rainaud produced, engineered, mixed and mastered the track. Vicente Cordero directed the video, with Arion Csihar producing it. The tight guitar rhythms and mechanical percussion are familiar Fear Factory, but this is our first chance to hear Silvestro put his voice to a studio track.
The 2:14 a.m. release was deliberate
Roboticist went live at 2:14 a.m. Eastern Time on 29 August. That's when Skynet becomes self-aware in Terminator 2: Judgment Day, on 29 August 1997. A pretty fitting release time for a band who've spent more than three decades writing about people and machines.
The album details are still coming
Cazares calls the song the beginning of a new era, but the band have not announced the title, tracklist or release date of the next album. Roboticist is the only new studio material confirmed so far.
The current European route reaches Baroeg Open Air in Rotterdam on 12 September and Doornroosje in Nijmegen on 13 September. Both dates are now in the Legends finder; the Nijmegen show also includes Crystal Lake, Hate and The Nocturnal Affair.
