AXTY release The Pain Made Me Who I Am today through Napalm Records. The 12-track album is the Brazilian trio's first for the label and follows a sequence of singles including selfish, fragile, who I am and nothing but pain.

Felipe Hervoso handles vocals, Gabriel Vacari plays drums and Jonathas Xavier plays guitar. Between them, they cover a lot: down-tuned riffs, polyrhythmic deathcore, clean hooks, electronics and hip-hop rhythms.

Between metalcore and deathcore

who I am moves from tight extreme-metal rhythms into a soaring chorus. nothing but pain leans further into electronic metalcore production, while closer end this brings in alternative and nu metal influences.

What the title means

The album keeps returning to difficult emotions and the effort to get through them. Its title is about how pain changes you, and how you carry on afterwards.

AXTY sound comfortable moving between metalcore and deathcore. The breakdowns hit hard, and the melodies hold up too. Hearing both across a full label debut gives us a better sense of what they're doing.
