On 17 August 1996, Korn headlined the Kerrang! Stage at Monsters of Rock in Donington. Their self-titled debut had grown through relentless touring, while Life Is Peachy was already recorded and waiting for its 15 October release.
Nine songs came from the debut, with Chi and Good God giving the UK audience an early listen to the next record. Blind opened the documented 12-song set, followed by Ball Tongue, Divine and Need To.
The 1996 Kerrang! Stage lineup
Kiss and Ozzy Osbourne co-headlined the main stage. Korn shared the Kerrang! Stage with Type O Negative, Everclear, 3 Colours Red, Honeycrack and Cecil. Looking back, it's quite a snapshot of where heavy music stood in 1996.
The original recording lineup played: Jonathan Davis, James Shaffer, Brian Welch, Reginald Arvizu and David Silveria. MTV Europe's Headbangers Ball covered the festival and interviewed the band. Korn had already broken beyond the underground, but the scale of Follow the Leader was still two years away.
