MyVeronica began as singer and guitarist Mia Lin's solo project and developed into a four-piece band. I Hope There's Music in Heaven is the first complete record from that formation, nine songs released through Sunday Drive Records with Sick Sad World at the front and Sun Song at the end.
The label names Mineral, Sonic Youth and Sunny Day Real Estate as reference points. You can hear those influences in the piercing guitar hooks and quieter, melancholic stretches, but the songs have their own pace.
Mia Lin's Writing
Lin has described the project as a way to reach the sensitive part of herself that everyday life doesn't always leave room for. That comes through in songs about early adulthood, uncertainty and trying to find something good.
The influences are familiar, but MyVeronica know when to get loud and when to leave a song alone. Those quieter decisions are a big part of what makes the debut work.
