My Chemical Romance want to spend 2027 making a record. Gerard Way told the crowd during the band's 30 October Hollywood Bowl show that the work will probably take them off the road next year, with live activity potentially returning in 2028.
“Next year, we wanna go make a record, so we're probably not going to do any shows.”
Gerard Way, Hollywood Bowl, 30 October 2026
Read our September report, when Gerard Way said the band wanted another record but had no timeline.
Way immediately removed the usual puzzle around a My Chemical Romance tease. He said there was no secret code in the comment: the band want the time to make something, and may only play if they need to shake off the rust while working.
The difference between wanting and scheduling
This moves the story forward from September. At the end of the North American Black Parade run in San Antonio, Way said the band had always wanted another record but did not know when life would allow it. There was no working year then. The Hollywood Bowl statement gives the plan a 2027 window and pairs it with an expected pause in touring.
It is still not a finished-album announcement. My Chemical Romance have not shared a title, producer, studio, tracklist, release date or first song. If the sessions become album five, it would follow 2010's Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. The Foundations of Decay, released in 2022, remains the only new song from the reunited band.
The Black Parade closes one chapter
The comment arrived during the final stretch of My Chemical Romance's Black Parade anniversary run. The band also worked with Lauren Tsai on Prelude to The End, an animated short built around the album's opening track and screened ahead of the final Hollywood Bowl shows.
For now, the precise news is enough: My Chemical Romance intend to make a record in 2027. Everything after that—the songs, the shape of the release and whether 2028 really brings them back to the stage—remains open.
