Howard Jones and Adam Dutkiewicz have made their long-running collaboration official. The former Killswitch Engage bandmates are now Burn Eternal, and the project has signed to Metal Blade Records for a debut album that Jones says is complete.

There is still a useful line between what has been confirmed and what has not. Metal Blade says the first music is coming soon, but no song title, album title, release date, tracklist or wider lineup has been announced.

Go back to the record that established Adam Dutkiewicz’s production voice inside Killswitch Engage.

A project years in the making

The record did not appear overnight. Jones first shared that he and Dutkiewicz were recording together in 2023, later saying that the vocals were finished. By December 2024 the album had been mixed, and earlier this year Dutkiewicz confirmed that the record was ready while they worked out how to release it.

The Metal Blade deal is therefore the first firm release step after several years of studio updates. Jones described the album as the result of an idea that began over lunch in London and called the process “such a fun way to reconnect with my friend”. Dutkiewicz kept the mood looser, calling them “two goofballs just dicking around in the studio again”.

History without pretending this is Killswitch Engage

Jones fronted Killswitch Engage from 2002 until 2012, with Dutkiewicz on guitar and behind the desk. Their shared run includes The End Of Heartache, As Daylight Dies and the band’s 2009 self-titled album. Jones later returned as a guest on ‘The Signal Fire’ in 2019, so Burn Eternal is not a first reunion. It is the first time the pair have given that working relationship its own band name and record.

That distinction matters. Burn Eternal arrives with an unavoidable metalcore history, but Metal Blade’s announcement leaves the sound of the album almost entirely open. Until the first track lands, the concrete news is the label signing and the finished record — not a promised recreation of an earlier Killswitch era.
