Chimaira released Pass Out Of Existence on 2 October 2001 through Roadrunner Records. It was the Cleveland band's debut full-length.
The record put seven-string guitars in dropped A beside programming, samples and Chris Spicuzza’s electronics. That mix makes it noticeably different from The Impossibility Of Reason, the heavier and more focused album that followed in 2003.
Stephen Carpenter of Deftones contributed guitar to ‘Rizzo’. ‘Sphere’ and ‘Painting The White To Grey’ were re-recorded from This Present Darkness, while ‘Sp Lit’ received the album’s official music video.
The album arrived as nu metal was still a dominant language for heavy bands, but Chimaira were already pulling death metal and Cleveland hardcore into it. The combination is what makes the debut stand apart from the rest of their catalogue.
