I Prevail released True Power through Fearless Records on 19 August 2022. It followed Trauma, which earned Grammy nominations for Best Rock Album and Best Metal Performance. This time, they pushed further into rap phrasing and electronics alongside the clean hooks and breakdowns.

Self-Destruction makes that clear quickly. The rapping, electronics and low guitars jostle for space, but the chorus is still huge. Those collisions are a big part of what works on True Power.

Body Bag, Self-Destruction And Deep End

Body Bag hits directly, Self-Destruction leans on its rhythms and Deep End opens up emotionally. The changes can be abrupt, but that's part of the appeal. I Prevail let pop structures, nu metal rhythms and electronic production sit together inside metalcore.

The last full album with Brian Burkheiser

True Power was I Prevail's final full-length with founding clean vocalist Brian Burkheiser. Fearless presents Violent Nature as the first album with Eric Vanlerberghe handling both clean and unclean vocals, so this record also captures the last full outing for the earlier dual-vocal setup.

The mix of breakdowns, rap, programming and pop melody feels less unusual four years later. True Power still has plenty of weight beneath all those changes.
