My Chemical Romance released the ‘Welcome To The Black Parade’ video on 28 September 2006. Samuel Bayer directed it, giving The Black Parade its first complete visual identity nearly a month before the album arrived.

The opening hospital scene turns into a funeral procession led by the band in Colleen Atwood’s black uniforms. Gerard Way’s Patient is pulled into a city of ash, marching figures and theatrical faces without losing the song’s simple starting point: one piano note and a memory of his father.

That scale could easily have swallowed the band. Instead, the close-ups, Gerard’s stare into the camera and the group playing on the parade float keep it recognisably My Chemical Romance rather than a detached film concept.

Twenty years later, the uniforms and the Patient remain inseparable from the song. The video did not just advertise The Black Parade; it showed fans exactly who the band had become before they heard the full record.
