Dead Boys have confirmed the death of founding guitarist Cheetah Chrome, whose work with Rocket From the Tombs and Dead Boys helped shape American punk.
Dead Boys have confirmed that founding guitarist Cheetah Chrome has died at 71. No cause of death has been disclosed.
Born Eugene Richard O'Connor, Chrome came through Cleveland's Rocket From the Tombs before forming Dead Boys with Stiv Bators and Johnny Blitz.
A Guitar Sound That Stayed Dangerous
His guitar gave 1977's Young, Loud and Snotty its feral edge. Sonic Reducer and Ain't It Fun helped connect Cleveland's first punk wave to the rooms where the New York scene took shape.
The band remembered Chrome as a true original and an architect of punk rock. That is not exaggeration. Nearly fifty years later, his playing still sounds dangerous.

The first blink-182 album after the band’s reunion sounded fractured by design, with ‘Ghost On The Dance Floor’ and ‘After Midnight’ holding its darker edges together.
