HeartSupport began in 2011 after August Burns Red vocalist Jake Luhrs noticed how often listeners shared serious personal struggles with him after shows. He wanted them to have support beyond those brief conversations.
Support From Within The Scene
HeartSupport developed peer-support spaces, replies from trained volunteers and one-to-one calls. Its official history includes contributions from We Came As Romans, Beartooth, Motionless in White, Fit For a King and other artists who shared their own experiences.
A Place To Talk At Festivals
At events such as Christmas Burns Red, HeartSupport gives people a place to talk in person. A song might start that conversation; having someone there to listen and point towards support helps it continue.
HeartSupport is clear that peer support doesn't replace professional care. It's a familiar place for people in this scene to ask for help, with guidance towards clinical support when it's needed.
